Jimmy Kimmel is a comedian, and thus tries to stay away from any political bias on his Jimmy Kimmel Live! show.
But when it comes to matters of science rather than politics—like global warming—Kimmel has no problem chiming in with his own comedic twist.
In one of his recent late night monologues, Kimmel shows that even Sarah Palin is aware that 97% of climate scientists agree that humans are causing climate change. But despite the politician’s knowledge of this telling statistic, she denies global warming, unaware of her blatantly contradictory statement. So Kimmel pounces on the opportunity to assemble the very scientists who know that climate change is happening. In a mock-PSA made for the show, the scientists tell us straight-up: “we’re not f***ing with you!”
While Kimmel aims to let the scientists do the talking, he makes a refreshingly eloquent point that their opinions on climate change are the relevant ones. “Climate change is not a liberal versus conservative thing,” he says, “but the people who profit from ignoring it want you to believe it is.”
Kimmel has employed the help of foul-mouthed experts for the sake of common sense and science before. In light of debates over the importance of childhood vaccinations, Kimmel sought out doctors to spread the important message: “Get your God**** kids vaccinated!”
As we like to emphasize here at ASCO2, it’s small changes in our everyday lifestyles, and doing our part no matter how small, that can help stem climate change.
